Almost 2 weeks ago, Ezra asked Micah to read him the story of Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. At the end of the story, Ezra said, “I want to go to Heaven.” Micah explained that Ezra would have to pray & ask Jesus to forgive him of his sins to which he responded, “I want to pray.” Now you should know that Ezra almost never prays out loud, at least not when Micah or I are around. However, on that night, he repeated the words that Micah prayed!
Later that night as Micah & I talked, we wondered if Ezra really understood what he had done and if this really was his ‘prayer of confession’.
The next morning, Micah asked him, “Ezra, are you going to Heaven?” to which he replied, “Yeah!” Micah asked, “How do you know?” and he said very matter of fact, “Because I prayed and asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins!”
Obviously, he still has a long ways to go in his walk with the Lord, but as much as he can understand salvation in his 4-year old heart & mind, Ezra believes that Jesus loves him, that He died for him, & that He has forgiven his sins!
“There is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)
