Spring Planting

Last Saturday Micah had to work so the kids & I went on an adventure to the Living Farm Heritage Museum. They were having their Spring Field Day. This meant they were getting a couple fields ready for planting the old-fashioned way: with horses!

We got to ride out to the field on a wagon pulled by a tractor (Ezra thought this was pretty amazing!)

Audrey seems a lot less enthused.

These guys were doing the plowing by hand!

This guy had a plow that he could ride, so less work than the hand plow, but it still took a long time.

I really enjoyed this learning experience! Having grown up in the country surrounded by tractors I am used to seeing fields being prepared for planting. This put plowing in the past in a whole new light & made me realize just how much tractors changed farming!

I love this mix of old & new: the farmer talking on his cell as he waits his turn!

Ezra thought the horses were okay, but he really liked was the barn with all the old tractors. He asked me to take a picture of this Farmall tractor!
