On Sunday afternoon, Micah & I shared lunch with our friends, the Schalm family. They made us one of their favorite meals: Strawberry Soup! (Think Strawberry Shake sans ice cream!)
(This is just a pictures I stole off the internet – we didn’t go this gourment on Sunday afternoon!)
I had heard about this from them before & had been curious about it, so even though they are only days away from moving, their kids insisted that we needed to have strawberry soup with them.
Apparently, this is a German/Polish traditional meal from back in the days when they didn’t have a lot of money. The ingredients are strawberries, milk, & sugar. You can eat it with a spoon or sop it up with bread & butter (preferably salted butter to get the sweet & salty going all at the same time). You eat it cold & really it is more like dessert than anything else! It was a unique experience & I may have to try making it again this summer if the weather will ever get warm!
